WHO WE ARE

To protect Nigeria's maritime interests, combat piracy, and smuggling activities.

The Nigerian Coast Guard Was formally pronounced (Established) in the Nigerian Senate in 2021 by Sen. Eyakenyi, Akon Etim. Emerged from the Nigerian Navy to focus specifically on maritime security and law enforcement along Nigeria’s coastline. Initially, its primary mandate was to protect Nigeria’s maritime interests, combat piracy, illegal fishing, and smuggling activities. Over the years, it has evolved to incorporate modern maritime security practices, including search and rescue operations, marine environmental protection, and collaboration with international partners to address transnational maritime threats. Today, the Nigerian Coast Guard continues to play a crucial role in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain and promoting maritime safety and security in the region.

Aims /Objectives:

It is not uncommon for Coast Guard troops to carry out multiple types of missions in
one day. They protect our ports from cyber-attacks, disrupt international crime and terrorism, and mitigate the effects of human activity when ice caps melt in the polar areas. They are Nigerian Maritime Guardians, saving lives and thwarting complicated
dangers.

Assist individuals in need to reduce the risk of harm or death
and to decrease the amount of property lost at sea. Among the Coast Guard's first missions is search and rescue. Assist individuals in need to reduce the risk of harm or death and to decrease the amount of property lost at sea. Among the Coast Guard's

Prevent, interrupt, and respond to terrorist attacks, sabotage, espionage, or subversive acts in order to safeguard persons and
property inside the Nigerian Maritime Transportation System.

Dismantle international organized crime, deter and disrupt the
illegal drug trade, and stop these threats from ever making it to Nigeria. Within the transit zone, which spans six million square miles, the NCG works closely in coordination with other federal agencies and partners.

Enforce Nigerian immigration laws, respect international
agreements prohibiting people smuggling, and repatriate unauthorized migrants in
order to promote safe, lawful, and orderly migratory operations.

In order to preserve living marine resources and their
habitat, especially endangered and protected species and areas, uphold Nigerian and
international laws and treaties.

By creating and implementing laws to prevent the introduction of invasive species, limit illegal ocean dumping, and prevent and respond to oil spills and hazardous material discharges, you can lessen the likelihood
that the marine ecosystem will suffer harm.

Prevent accidents and property losses by establishing maritime
standards, conducting inspections and investigations, partnering with boating safety
organizations and licensing Nigerian mariners.
